March 18 @7pm-- "National Gay Task Force in the Roosevelt Room: The Politics of the First White House Meeting"
Presented by Dr. Doreen Mattingly & Ashley Boyd
As President Jimmy Carter's "window to the nation", Midge Costanza organized the first White House meeting with a LBGTQ organization. Her 1977 meeting with the National Gay Task Force led to important changes in federal policy and raised other issues still unresolved today. This presentation will discuss the specific policy outcomes of the historic meeting, as well as its contributions to the rapidly changing cultural politics of the late 1970s.
