At long last, OCEAN SQUARES is back. Tons of fun!!
Now that the long, drawn-out election is over, Ocean Squares is dancing again, tonight, Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Pilgrim Hall in Pilgrim United Church, 2020 Chestnut Street, Carlsbad, CA, from 7 to 9 pm.
Pilgrim Hall is next to and attached to the church (unless we get shunted to the nursery again!). Pilgrim Church is on the northeast corner of Chestnut and Monroe, in Carlsbad. No—not the Mormon Temple—the opposite corner!
From the 78, exit El Camino, go south to Chestnut and turn right, down to Monroe. Church is on the near right corner. Small parking off Chestnut, and more parking around the corner.
We invite you to join us for an enjoyable evening of square dancing. Everyone is invited, whether you already know how to square dance or not. We will show you how! You don’t need a partner, and there is no dress code.
We are one of twelve gay square dance clubs in southern California, and about 85 in the U.S., Canada, and several other countries, including Japan and Denmark!
Hope to see you tonight!

The Center has partnered with The San Diego Food Bank. 9 am until the food is gone. Booths for signing up for food stamps and other services open at 8 am. People start lining up for the food by 8 am. The food is normally gone by 10 am.
Through our Community Food Distribution Program, The San Diego Food Bank (SDFB) feeds over 1,600 families each month. Products such as fresh fruits and vegetables and assorted cans are a few of the items you might find at any of our ten distribution sites.
The SDFB partners with non-profits to help distribute a minimum of 12 pallets of food each week. There are absolutely no requirements to receive food from our community food distributions.
In addition to this, we’re launching our Community Cares Project. Our goal is to provide a “one –stop-shop” where people can receive emergency food, pre-screen for Food Stamps and sign up for a range of other services including housing, employment, medical as well as low cost utility programs. Talking about TINA is a group for HIV+ men who use crystal methamphetamine. Through the group setting, we offer a safe and nonjudgmental space to talk about ambivalence related to meth use, relationships, community norms, health issues, sex, and past and present struggles with drug use. The group also includes education and skill-building training that focus on strategies to limit the harm associated with drug use, identify triggers, prevent relapse, increase positive supports, and improve sexual health.
In 2009, over 1,000 volunteers went door to door with us to talk with voters about the importance of marriage equality for gay & lesbian couples. This year we’ve already talked with voters at their door in places like Santee and El Cajon. How great is that?
We know we’re on the right path, but California’s a huge state and we have to change the minds of 800 San Diegans this year alone or we WILL continue to lose this fight. Currently, we don't have enough volunteers on our team to meet this goal.
That's why we're on the phones every Tuesday and Thursday night, calling our supporters and signing up new volunteers. New and experienced phone bankers are welcome -- we go through a great training with you so you'll be well prepared to sign up some new volunteers and help build the team that's going to win marriage back! We also pair you with experienced coaches to support you through your whole shift. This is the most effective way to get more supporters to join the crucial work of going door-to-door to change hearts and minds about same-sex marriage.
It’s really important that we get all of our supporters out with us doing this important work. We all need to do our part.
Join us from 6-9pm any Tuesday or Thursday night at our office, 4506 30th Street, SD 92116 (North Park/Normal Heights).
This support group meeting is open to all gay men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their partners and caregivers. The meeting is held every Tuesday 6:30 to 8:00 PM except the Tuesday on or before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.
