Now that the long, drawn-out election is over, Ocean Squares is dancing again, tonight, Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Pilgrim Hall in Pilgrim United Church, 2020 Chestnut Street, Carlsbad, CA, from 7 to 9 pm.
Pilgrim Hall is next to and attached to the church (unless we get shunted to the nursery again!). Pilgrim Church is on the northeast corner of Chestnut and Monroe, in Carlsbad. No—not the Mormon Temple—the opposite corner!
From the 78, exit El Camino, go south to Chestnut and turn right, down to Monroe. Church is on the near right corner. Small parking off Chestnut, and more parking around the corner.
We invite you to join us for an enjoyable evening of square dancing. Everyone is invited, whether you already know how to square dance or not. We will show you how! You don’t need a partner, and there is no dress code.
We are one of twelve gay square dance clubs in southern California, and about 85 in the U.S., Canada, and several other countries, including Japan and Denmark!
Hope to see you tonight!

Project OUT-Reach – a project where we are going into the areas around San Diego County where we lost Prop 8 looking for new supporters while educating the community about what's happening around the issue of marriage equality and getting them involved in the next steps towards equality. Even by starting right now, we have less than two years to change the hearts and minds of 250,000 + 1 Californians by using earned media, demonstrations, public outreach and education. To be successful we cannot just organize in areas that are supportive. We must also reach out to communities that have not traditionally been our allies in this fight to bridge the gap in understanding. We will have conversations with people, both at their doors and in busy public spaces to raise consciousness about the issue as well as funds for the cause. We will keep our community energized and engaged as activists, fighting to win back our fundamental right to marry.

In 2009, over 1,000 volunteers went door to door with us across the state to talk with voters about the importance of marriage equality for gay & lesbian couples. This year we’ve already talked with voters at their door in places like Santee and El Cajon. How great is that?
We know we’re on the right path, but California’s a huge state and we have to change the minds of 800 San Diegans this year alone or we WILL continue to lose this fight.
For our door-to-door canvass we’re gathering a team of volunteers to go in pairs to neighborhoods that mainly voted Yes on Prop 8, and we’re having conversations at the door about voters' stance on marriage. Currently in San Diego 25% of the people we talk to come closer to supporting marriage for LGBT couples. We prepare you with a great training and role play then pair you up with a volunteer who’s canvassed before.
It’s really important that we get all of our supporters out with us doing this important work. We all need to do our part.

We know we’re on the right path, but California’s a huge state and we have to change the minds of 800 San Diegans this year alone or we WILL continue to lose this fight. Currently, we don't have enough volunteers on our team to meet this goal.
That's why we're on the phones every Tuesday and Thursday night, calling our supporters and signing up new volunteers. New and experienced phone bankers are welcome -- we go through a great training with you so you'll be well prepared to sign up some new volunteers and help build the team that's going to win marriage back! We also pair you with experienced coaches to support you through your whole shift. This is the most effective way to get more supporters to join the crucial work of going door-to-door to change hearts and minds about same-sex marriage.
It’s really important that we get all of our supporters out with us doing this important work. We all need to do our part.
Join us from 6-9pm any Tuesday or Thursday night at our office, 4506 30th Street, SD 92116 (North Park/Normal Heights).
Come join us for a great gay bowling league every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Kearny Mesa Bowl. We take any level of bowler, new, intermediate, or advanced, men and women. The cost is approximately $16 per week. Teams are forming now, please give us a call or email to join! The league will begin its long Winter season in early September, and we'd like to get your interest for that league as well.
This support group meeting is open to all gay men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their partners and caregivers. The meeting is held every Tuesday 6:30 to 8:00 PM except the Tuesday on or before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

Occurring every Sunday from 9am-2pm, rain or shine, the Hillcrest Farmers Market currently consists of 110 vendors offering a wide variety of locally grown in-season fruit, produce and flowers. Many of the local California Farmers participating in the market grow their produce organically or with no pesticides. The market also hosts a large variety of prepared food and hot food items with an emphasis on international cuisine. Additionally, each week there are a large number of arts and crafts vendors participating as well as weekly entertainment performed by the 7th Day, Buskers, a local band.
